ABSTRACT
The seismic behaviour of masonry veneer in Australia is largely unknown. A nonlinear finite element model simulating masonry veneer under both static and dynamic loads has been developed in order to determine whether current design procedures in Australia are adequate. Results of static analyses using the model are presented along with results from nonlinear dymimic time domain analyses. The important role of wall ties is emphasised.
