ABSTRACT
A finite element model for the prediction of crack sizes in masonry wall panels due to foundation movements is predicted. The model is specifically designed for use in reliability studies. Model simplicity and rapid solution speed are key features while still maintaining the flexibility to investigate a wide range of scenarios for cracking in the wall panels. Crack widths are obtained essentially by studying relative movements between intact blocks of masonry and the footing beam (which are separated by cracks) due to various deformed ground profiles.
